Petrof Pianos

A European manufacturer since 1864.

The PETROF factory was founded in 1864 by Antonin Petrof in Hradec Králové, the industrial town located 100 kilometers East of Prague, Czechoslovakia. Three generations of the PETROF family were owners and managers of the firm, which during this long period, adapted to technological developments and won prizes for PETROF pianos at international trade events.

In 1965, PETROF became a member of the Industrial and Commercial Group, a division of Czechoslovakia Musical Instruments, the state corporation in charge of imports and exports.

In 1970, a new main factory for upright piano production was built in Hradec Králové, to which the factory for grand pianos was annexed in 1989.

PETROF engineers and technicians are very proud of the classic components used to make upright and grand PETROF pianos, as they are of the traditional methods they use.

The spruce used to make the soundboards come from selected regions, reputed for producing particularly favourable woods for musical instruments. The soundboards are made from a collection of carefully selected spruce, which is ripened in free air over a 5-year span, then dehydrated in driers to lower the humidity factor according to the standards. A large majority of PETROF parts are made in PETROF factories, thus eliminating subcontracting.

The metal plate covering the piano perimeters ensures stability and increases the structure's sturdiness, while giving that velvety, rich-bodied sound for which PETROF pianos are so well-known.

The superior-quality polyester resin used to finish PETROF pianos is applied and polished by hand following a long drying and hardening period.

The elegant line of PETROF pianos is offered in several precious wood finishes including mahogany, walnut and oak, suitable for the home, and the very classic ebony, a favourite for concert halls.

The making of PETROF pianos consists of a unique blend of traditional methods and modern technologies, offering a European piano of high calibre, coupled with a rich, smooth sound, and a precise mechanism. PETROF pianos come with a 5-year guarantee.
