Heintzman—A Canadian Tradition!
Founded by Theodore August Heintzman in 1866 with its first factory at 23 Duke Street, Toronto, Ontario, Heintzman and Co. rose to become one of the largest Canadian manufacturers of its time—of anything!. Theodore August had arrived from Germany the same year as Heinrich Steinweg, the man who founded the Steinway company in New York. These two great piano makers shared a similar career and background in Germany.
By 1876, the young company was already receiving awards at the prestigious Philadelphia Centennial Exhibition as well as exhibiting at the Toronto Industrial Exhibition (now the CNE). By 1890, Heintzman had become one of the world’s largest piano makers, with 200 employees at its Toronto factory and a production of over 1,000 instruments a year. Unlike many manufacturers of the time, Heintzman refused to compromise quality for price. By the turn of the 19th century, piano production had reached 3,000 pianos a year.
In 1927, Heintzman acquired the Gerhard Heintzman (founded by Theodore August’s nephew) and Nordheimer piano companies. In 1962, production was relocated to a major new factory in Hanover, Ontario, which was expanded in 1968 to increase production capacity to 5,000 pianos annually. William D. Heintzman became president in 1978 and the name Heintzman Limited was adopted.
Heintzman pianos feature some of the best components on the market, including German pinblocks, Renner hammers, Renner actions, Mapes bass strings, Röslau treble strings, and Bolduc soundboards. Heintzman pianos represent excellent value and truly stand out from the competition.
André Bolduc has personally contributed to the design and development of Heintzman pianos, with their astonishing sound and precise mechanical function. All new pianos are unpacked, checked, regulated, and tuned at the Beauce factory before being put on display at the Saint-Joseph-de-Beauce and Montreal stores.
Today, Heintzman pianos are assembled in Beijing, China, making it possible to offer a quality piano at a very competitive price. Heintzman is the only factory in China that makes pianos exclusively for itself—the Heintzman company. With its rich full, rich sound and precise, responsive action, Heintzman pianos represent a solid purchase at a reasonable price.
