Doug Schafer D.W. Schafer Piano Service

2004

Andre, Michelle, Christian and Catherine…

I received the Steinway “M” today, took the cover off of the crate and was EXTREMELY pleased with the FIRST CLASS job that you guys did. Wow, I’m very impressed, that’s all I can say. It is certainly a pleasure to have a job done by people who take pride in their workmanship. I work that way but it is difficult to find others who have high standards – it is obvious that you people do.

The soundboard, bridges, bridge pins, restringing and repinning are beautifully done. (Nice tight, even coils). I look forward to tuning it and feeling the pinblock.

The rebronzing of the plate and all the finishing touches – agraffes, duplex bars, screws and bolts and felting are so classy. I would really like to know what kind of black paint you use to highlights the printing on the plate. I have never been able to find a paint or enamel that stays solid jet black when it is supplied.

I wish to thank you very much for a job well done. Much appreciated!
Thank you for your compliments on my shipping crate. As I said, I believe in doing things right also. It made the round trip and is ready for many more trips. I just have to find some more pianos to put in it.

Thanks again good people.

Mr. Schäffler is planning to use your soundboards now in model C-212 from May 2009 (the 1st one was glued today and the second one tomorrow on the inner rim) on and it will be hearable from February 2010 on. We are sending yeu in the attachment seme of the photos yeu may use them if yeu wish by mentioning the source Prof. Dr. O.-P. Hader, University of Erlangen, Germany.

Pianos by Rösh, Calgary

Dear André,

This is to express our satisfaction with the high quality of the eastern spruce Sound-board material you supplied to us.  The success we achieved when installing the new Sound-board in Steinways and other grand pianos we have recently restores is directly attributable to your top-notch material.

We are very pleased with your selection of the wood for its evenness, so very important in a Sound-board.  The Rib stock material you have chosen is of first class and very clean. The nature of the 5-ply maple Pinblock planks we purchased from you makes it ideal for tuning.

Upon the recent ‘extraordinary’ restoration of his Steinway grand, Dr. David Moroz, professor at the faculty of music at the University of Manitoba, in Winnipeg, and nation-wide performing concert pianist, expresses his recognition and words his honest praise :

“The new Sound-board gives the piano a rich multidimensional
sound that makes it both a pleasure to play and to listen to.”

We are sending you a copy of this letter, along with one other of our most recent and very satisfied customer’s, as a testimony of work well done.  Thank you, and we wish you all the success in this new year.

Dear Josef,
I am completely delighted with the restoration you have done of my Steinway ‘B’ from 1900.  The exquisite black lacquer finish is flawless, and the new soundboard gives the piano a rich, multi-dimensional sound that makes it both a pleasure to play and to listen to.  I could not be happier with the results, and congratulate you on your superb craftsmanship.  You have my unconditional endorsement.
